Our Big (ger than expected) Miracle

Well it finally happened, one week and one day after my due date, on February 7th, we welcomed John Thomas into our contented family.  I had a surprisingly quick labor, much quicker than Labor and Delivery expected too.  I ended up dilating from a 4-10 and Johnny was born in just a little over an hour!  

         I definitely want to share the most wonderful blessing of it all, we were aware of the umbilical cord issue that is called Single Umbilical Artery, which means that Johnny's cord had one artery instead of two, possibly meaning there is less blood flow/nutrition flow and 30% of the time is connected with heart & kidney problems.  But none problems that can come up were detected.  After the delivery of John, the midwife inspected the placenta, a normal procedure.  She exclaimed that this baby truly is a miracle baby and boldly stated that it is amazing that he was born healthy and even survived!  She showed us two other problems that we were unaware of the entire pregnancy.  The baby had a true knot in the cord and he also the placenta had a problem called Velamentous Cord Insertion which in most cases causes the baby to die before it is even born, or when the mother is in labor.  So to say it truthfully, the Lord had His hand on this child!  What a blessing!  

          A neat story about how the Lord worked through prayer, and I thank many of you for praying for us through the uncertainties of it all;  A friend of mine who was with me in Nashville, when I got the first call saying that there were some abnormalities, had been praying for us.  She knew that babies that have the Single Umbilical Artery are sometimes smaller than normal because they get less nutrition & oxygen,  her specific prayer was that Johnny would be in the 8 lb. range.  Sure enough, we were expecting a slightly smaller baby and we got an 8 lb. 6 oz., 21 in. long healthy babe!  What an answer to her specific prayer!  

         We were able to go home about 26 hrs after he was born, which was such a blessing.  However, when we got home we were greeted by a sick Jimmy, ah... new baby and a sick little toddler... who starts to get asthmatic complicaitons when he gets sick.   Well now, 4 weeks later after the entire family got RSV and recovered, we are enjoying our family of 4!  What a blessing offspring are!  We are looking forward to introducing you all to our John Thomas, hopefully soon!  Give us a call and we'll set something up if you are in the area:)  Until next time may God be with you.
